Damask patterns were originally derived from the influence in Europe of Central Asian textiles, and many of the original motifs of pomegranates, acanthus leaves, carnations, and tulips which were found in ancient Ottoman textiles can still be seen in European damask designs of today. This new print has been adapted from a printed damask design discovered in an English archive, and shows the influence of exotic eastern textiles on this classic form. Its bold scale is balanced with more delicate decorative detailing, and its monochromatic simplicity gives it a modern look. The vertical quality of this design makes it a great choice for curtains or for an upholstered chair back.
